We tend to see Ipe (Ipomoea Argentea) trees as a household variety, typically found on a commercial level. We also see them in a residential landscape, almost always in the front yard. Nowadays, they have evolved into a powerful source of ornamental foliage.

Ipe Trees is tropical deciduous trees with the “umbrella” of a large foliage crown. The bark is smooth, but like most deciduous hardwoods has a large scale within the bark. Buy ipe online In some ways, it is even more porous than the bark of a willow tree.

Ipe trees also have broad and spiny growth. As mentioned, their bark is very tough and sensitive. The scales form a surface that’s tough enough to crack the bark but soft enough to mold the bark over to reveal the wood underneath. That’s what makes Ipe so much more difficult to damage than other hardwoods. The Ipe wood, after all, is composed of thousands of tiny sharp needles.

Ipe trees have two important advantages over their competitors in the realm of ornamental hardwood trees, namely, state-of-the-art products and maintenance. Its pollen powder is readily available, making it an easy choice for pollination. With its superior structural integrity, Ipe trees don’t have to compete for nutrients with other species. Thus they are not susceptible to over-watering and can survive heavy growth without drying out.

The popularity of Ipe as a flooring tree is perhaps due to its excellent heat resistance and its ability to be dyed. We see that it looks best when it is dyed a dark brown or black. Also, when you dye Ipe, use a heat gun on it first, sincere can damage the surface of Ipe while it is drying. Finally, by removing its leaves, you increase the Ipe’s longevity.

Ipe is also good for those of us who wish to decorate our homes with a landscaping type tree, as long as we’re not too aggressive in the design of our home-style tree. Ipe is an excellent backdrop for hanging baskets or birdbaths. And we find that Ipe can be an attractive accent if we use the different color patterns on its leaves to decorate a bedspread or pillow cover. Of course, any of these ideas can be used with Ipe, because the plant is beautiful in all its variations.

Often, though, we use the tree as a focal point for a particular design element, such as a flowerbed or outdoor pool table. In that case, we must use care in the selection of various Ipe specimens, which is why we recommend that you start your search early in the season. You’ll need to select specimens with well-developed leaves.
